Isaac’s Corner: Book Reviews

Hey, I’m Isaac and this is my first post on Hank’s super cool website. I’ve decided to call my posts.. Isaac’s Corner. I can see business cards and flyers being made up right now… maybe even a Billboard with me wearing a business coat and glasses.

So, what I would like to do on Isaac’s Corner is do book reviews. Ever since Hank’s book came out, we are seeing tons of people out there reviewing it and it seems like book reviews are important AND I have been told by my teacher that I can count these reviews as Official Book Reports – so Boom Shaka Locka!

For my first book review I would like to do a book that I totally love. Hatchet by Gary Paulsen.

hatchet - Isaac's Corner

The reason I love this book so much is because it’s about a boy who ends up being all alone in the wilderness and has to figure out how to survive without any help.. from anyone! All he has is his hatchet (i think this is why Gary picked hatchet for the title, but I could be wrong).

His first few days are just awful, tons of mosquito bites and no food. He finally finds some berries to eat, but they end up making him sick.

But he keeps going and that is what I like so much about this book. The main character is just a young boy and it would be easy for him to just give up, but he doesn’t. He keeps trying and learning and before long he is like King of the Wilderness.

If Hank, Sue, and I found ourselves lost in the woods, there is so much I learned from this book that would help us. It’s like a great book and a survival guide in one. In fact, I am asking my grandpa Roger for a hatchet this Christmas just in case we ever have a plane crash and find ourselves in the middle of nowhere.

So, if you are thinking about buying a book, and assuming you have already purchased A Worm Named Hank, you should totally pick up Hatchet by Gary Paulsen.
